Before training with Sarah
“Before I started training consistently, I had put on 40 pounds over six years. I had two kids from my mid 30s to my early 40s. My body felt very tight and my core felt weak. After having my second child in my 40s, I didn’t recognize the body I was in anymore. I tried many different ways to lose weight, but what I really needed was guidance and accountability to tailor workouts toward the strength I needed in the areas that had changed after pregnancy.”
“Emotionally, I didn’t feel like myself. I found myself constantly trying to hide certain areas with my clothes and didn’t feel confident mentally or physically. I felt disconnected from who I was.”
The moment things started to change
“Funny enough, I noticed it in my face first. Then the rest of my body started feeling more toned and stronger. I noticed my clothes fitting differently, and over time, becoming too big.”
“I also started feeling more confident being in photos again. I found myself taking more pictures of myself, saying yes to family photos instead of avoiding them, and honestly… my selfie rate has definitely increased lol. That was a really unexpected sign that I was starting to feel comfortable and confident in myself again.”
“But I really started feeling like myself again when everyday things felt easier. Playing with my kids, jumping on the trampoline, skiing, running around without feeling exhausted. The changes were subtle at first, but with consistency over time, they turned into goals I had been trying to reach for years.”
What surprised her most
“What surprised me most is that it’s really about consistency and building habits, not willpower. Just making movement and healthier choices part of everyday life instead of doing things intensely for a short amount of time.”
“I also realized I could still enjoy things I consider a ‘treat’ while gaining strength and losing weight. Consistency creates balance and makes healthy living feel sustainable instead of restrictive.”
“Another big surprise was how much physical strength translated into mental strength. Things that would normally overwhelm me became easier to move through, and strength training became an outlet that helped me mentally as much as physically.”
What feels most meaningful now
“My confidence. I’ve started creating new goals for myself because now I truly believe I’m capable of reaching them.”
Her advice to other moms
“Invest in yourself and make it work. If finances are the barrier, work with your family to adjust things because investing in yourself allows you to show up better for everyone else, especially yourself.”
“As moms, we spend so much time taking care of and growing other little bodies that we forget the most important one is our own.”
